Imagine relaxing in the same room where friends John Steinbeck, Doc Rickets, blacksmith Francis Whittaker and artist James Fitzgerald once gathered. This extraordinary property boasts as much historical significance as it does charm. James Fitzgerald (whose sketch of John Steinbeck now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery) built this home in 1930 and designed it to catch the best light for painting portraits. He hired Whittaker (whose workshop is now Carmel's Forge in the Forest restaurant) to create the wrought iron railing for the loft. Portrait painter and author Caroline Mytinger bought the home from Fitzgerald and added the second bedroom and garden. This home has been painstakingly restored, boasting Cherrywood cabinets, redwood siding, wood shingled roof, copper gutters, a beautiful chandelier, and boutique kitchen with a wonderfully preserved O'Keefe & Merritt gas range. Architectural plans for an additional bedroom over the garage included with this move-in ready property.
